UX DESIGN LEAD - Knowly.co
As brand new start up that provides online tutoring, Knowly.co needed to design its platform, from the experience to the UI.
Knowly.co is an educational start up that provides a platform for tutoring online. Selected lecturer offer their tutoring to help students to prepare for exams or simply to increase their marks. I worked (and I'm still collaborating with them) as UX design consultant for Knowly.co, helping the team with anything that involves design decisions.
What: UX Design | Design Style guideline | Interaction Design | Graphic Lead
My collaboration with Knowly.co started in 2014 when the team wanted to select a freelance graphic designer launching an online contest. We worked together to provide clear design guidelines starting from the wireframes provided by the two co-founders.
During the design competition, which lasted about a month, we reviewed more than 15 candidates and we provided daily feedback to each of them according to the team’s needs. After ranking them we select the winner and we worked with him in order to achieve the final expected result.
In order to to speed up the selection process, I often acted as a bridge between a technical language of the co-founders and the visuals proposed by the designers.
Design Contest | Design feedback
Detailed documentations containing comments for the designers have been shared with the co-founders to get approval. During the last phase of the competition, when only two designers worked on the screens, a more visual communication took place (sketches and wireframes).
Sketches, Mock Ups & Design Styleguide
Wireframes provided by the two co-founders constituted the foundation for the design guidelines for the contest and have been translated in more structured visuals.
Sketches, color palette proposals and mock ups helped to match the contest's graphic proposals with the expectation of the team.
What I have learned
This project strengthened my communication and team working skills.
I often had to wear the shoes of a mediator between engineers and graphic designers and I enjoyed do that. The timeline of a startup is fast and the products need to be shipped soon, but I learned that working under pressure can bring to productive momentum. Fail fast, fail often. I'm glad I'm taking part in this project. We are happy with the results achieved so far and I'm sure Knowly.co will succeed in this market, the team has the right enthusiasm and determination!
